Google have taken the Street View Style to new places.

You can now explore some of the world’s top art galleries. It’s easy to navigate yourself through rooms and doorways (and even change floors!) to look around the exhibitions. You can be dropped into a room that you select by clicking on the room in the floor plan view.

The technology used is the same as Street View (they removed the cameras from their cars and used them inside!) but Google have also taken high resolution images of individual paintings. You can then select and zoom into a painting to examine them in detail. When you are looking at a painting you are also given detailed information about this painting and the painter.

Google have opened up an opportunity for a wider audience to have access the galleries featured (although most galleries only have some rooms available!) It’s a good idea… but what will Google use their Street View technology for next!
